AllSum Is NOT Awesome

A few days back, I got infected with the AllSum Adware program.  It was really hard to get rid of, at least until I found the right program.  Here’s my story.

I found this media player program that looked really good.  The best part for me was that it was a free program.  My Windows Media Player was not working right after a virus infection that I had.  Anyway, so I thought I could use this new program, and that’s how I think I got AllSum.

It didn’t take very long after I finished my download that I started getting pop-up ads.  I thought it wasn’t a big deal, so I closed my browser and restarted it.  The pop-ups kept coming once I did.  As I gather, this is pretty typical for an AllSum infection.

This time, I shut my computer off and restarted.  Again, AllSum’s pop-ups came back, almost as soon as I was done rebooting.  This was starting to get frustrating.

I tried running my antivirus program to get rid of it.  It didn’t find anything, so I figured out that the AllSum pop-ups weren’t because of a virus.  If I had known better, I would have totally skipped this part.  Viruses don’t tend to create pop-ups.

After that, I did a little research on pop-ups.  I found out that they’re either adware or spyware.  From what I saw about the spyware, the hairs on the back of my neck raised up.  They steal information from your computer and use it to advertise to you.  Whether AllSum was adware or spyware, I didn’t know, so I immediately started looking for antispyware programs.

I tried the free antispyware programs first.  This is how I found out that my problem was called AllSum.  The problem was that although they recognized it, they couldn’t get rid of it.  It looked like I was going to have to pay for a program to get rid of these stupid pop-ups.

I looked at a lot of the paid programs.  There were several that I’d heard of, but they were more money than I wanted to pay.  Especially since I wasn’t sure if they could get rid of AllSum.

I decided the best way to work this out was to quit looking for the “best” programs, since there were so many programs that claimed to be it.  I wanted a guarantee that they could get rid of AllSum.

From there, I decided I would search for a 100% removal guarantee.  I figured that if I had to pay for an antispyware program, it had better be able to get rid of AllSum and anything else that I might have.  The only program I saw that made this promise was called SpyZooka.

I’m not sure what they mean by having a robot scan the Internet looking for new spyware, but I gathered that it basically meant that they were quicker than the other programs in getting protection from new spyware programs.  I figured that they would have surely found AllSum by now.

I decided to make the leap and buy SpyZooka.  What was great also is that they’re less expensive than a lot of the programs out there.  To my surprise, they found AllSum within five minutes, instead of like an hour.  It took me a while to get there, but I’ve definitely found my antispyware tool.
